A Fox’s Plea

Oh why do you hunt me and  cause me great harm, I’m known for my cunning, I delight and charm.

I roam the countryside, towns, sometimes your gardens too but more often than not I keep away from you.

Stupid folk on their horses, blowing their horns, the pack with one mission, my flesh must be torn.

I’m a defenceless animal just trying to survive, please leave me alone to get on with my life.

A barbaric act, it makes no sense to me, please look into my eyes, I’ve a family to feed.

I’ve been here for centuries and many more to come, I pity poor humans, what have you become?

A wondrous sight watching my cubs frolic and play, but it fills me with sadness, it could be them one day.

The killing never stops, friends, badgers and hares, I have one simple request, stop the killing right there.

I may be many in number and a pest on occasion but I deserve to wander this land with every other creation.

A final word from me in this world of sadness, please let me be and stop this heartless madness.
