Our native reds, adored by the nation but will they be here for the next generation?
Under constant threat from the invasive greys, spreading their pox, leaving silent dreys.
More must be done to stop their lethal spread, it’ll soon be too late, every one will be dead.
A wonder of nature, a joy to see but soon to be consigned to history.
Imagine a time, not so far away, empty forests, just the haunt of the grey.
They’ll just be a memory, tales to be told, like Nutkin or Tufty from days of old.
We need a solution to combat the greys, remove the threat and return to happier days.
My hope for the future as this plague spreads is that home will forever be the land of the reds.
A heartfelt cry that many of us will engage with. So sad that generations of people in this land have and likely never will see a red squirrel in its native natural environment...
